Thank you so much for participating in the governors’ spouses’ session addressing
communication strategies to promote a healthy America during the NGA Winter meeting.
We were delighted that you were able to join us to share information about Discovery
Health Channel’s National Body Challenge initiative. It was a startling, but
effective “wake-up call” to hear about the growing epidemic of overweight and obesity,
and the prevalence of diabetes among Americans-increasing among young
children-and the costs associated with this disease.
Your National Body Challenge initiative is providing a wonderful service to
families nationwide and helping to begin reversing these alarming trends
by educating consumers and parents about the importance of good nutrition and
physical activity. Your ideas of having members of our NGA Spouses’
Leadership Committee participate in a “pilot” project for Discovery Health
Channel’s national initiative was also effective, as it demonstrated firsthand how
our spouses’ group can raise awareness and provide encouragement to individuals
who are struggling with these issues in our own states.
Again, thank you very much for taking time from your busy schedule to be with us at
the NGA Winter Meeting. I look forward to our paths crossing again in the future.

Pam — thanks for taking the time to share your expertise and passion
for fitness with our students. Your presentation was a big hit with our students
and faculty alike. Your “edutainment” approach certainly helped us as
we stress the importance of life-long mental, physical, and nutritional fitness
with the students. You gave us a touchstone for th e rest of the year that
we can use to develop these leaders for future impact across the Army.
Again, thanks for your time and good luck during the Army 10 miler!
Best to you — Bill

The three most appropriate words that come to mind after your powerful
Wellness Panel presentation are “veni, vidi, vici!”. “‘Who was that woman’ was
asked time and again as you are such a superb communicator of extremely
useful and substantive information.”

On behalf of all of the WIC staff from across the State of Maryland, I want
to thank you for giving the keynote address at our annual WIC Conference.
Your talk was not only full of excellent, useful information, but it was motivating
as well. We will work to maintain the enthusiasm that you inspired in our
organization as we continue to promote healthy eating and lifestyle changes…

“Dr. Pamela Peeke was a perfect fit for our event. We wanted someone to touch and
inspire our grantees in attendance. Not only did Dr. Peeke energize and captivate
our audience, even the high school students, but she recognized that collectively,
we had the vision to improve our community’s nutrition and physical activity and
that we are definitely moving in the right direction. She provided a first-hand
look at the need to be active and gave excellent examples regarding the changes
in calorie consumption specifically how we’ve become “super-sized” as a nation
and we need to start thinking “right-sized.” Her words both validated and
motivated all of us to continue our goal of improving the health and wellness
of our community. Thank you Dr. Peeke!”

I am sure you could tell from the audience’s reaction that the first word I
should have used in this letter is “bravo”. Your presentation was truly one
of the most outstanding we have heard on nutrition, obesity and physical fitness.

What can I Say? You’re the best! You added so much to the flavor of our
conference. Your presentation was just the right pick-me-upper in a meeting
that consisted primarily of deep subjects geared to provide insight and solutions
to many of the challenges that senior-level women in government face today.

The Peeke Week was a great success on many levels, and I enjoyed meeting
all the Peeke participants. It was so special, because we all had a Tao
experience. The Tao experience is summed up in a quote from a book I
ust read: “Almost everyone, at some time in his or her life, has had a Tao
experience. It may have occurred on a mountaintop, perceived as a wondrous
sense of being one with the universe. The Tao experience conveys a profound
awareness of being part of something far greater than ourselves, of being included,
loved, and in touch with an invisible, external reality. In that timeless moment,
when the Tao is experienced we know that this is more significant than the tangible
world around us and far more meaningful than our usual, everyday concerns. At that
moment, everything and everyone seem synchronistically connected, linked by an
underlying spiritual meaning.” I look forward to working together with you in the future
creating preventive, integrative, and soul reaching programs. I thank you for all your
special gifts to me; and of all of those, Dr. Peeke, you are the greatest gift.
